Important Recommendations for RSV Immunizations

It is recommended that expecting moms (33-36 weeks) get the RSV vaccine Pfizer's bivalent RSV vaccine (Abrysvo) when offered September through January.  It is also recommended that newborn infants (babies younger than 8 months) get the RSV antibody (Beyfortus). However, due to the short supply at this time, the state of Massachusetts is prioritizing the RSV antibody for infants 6 months and younger as they are at more risk for severe disease.

Except in rare circumstances, most infants younger than 8 months of age do not need the RSV antibody if they were born 14 or more days after their mother got RSV vaccine.

Newborns:

Please DO NOT DEFER RSV ANTIBODY if it is offered to your newborn in the hospital (after delivery). Due to the limited supply, if you defer it for your newborn, it may not be available from your pediatrician.

Pregnant moms:

The RSV vaccine can help protect your newborn; it is RECOMMENDED that you request and receive the vaccine from your OB.
